What is the geographical area covered for this survey?
its US/EU and APAC (not all places though...limited to some countries...)
Wow that was surprising to know. Years ago when I used to IM a lot. ICQ and AOL were market leaders and when I heard that AOL bought ICQ, I said wow, now they will be an unbeatable force.
I personally have stopped using yahoo and MSN myself and just use skype and Gtalk now a days.
I think Trillian is multi-protocol IM client, pretty much like gaim (pidgin). Whoever is using trillian would be using yahoo, msn or gtalk services indirectly. I am surprised it is put under a separate category in this survey.
Also gaim/pidgin is definitely more popular than trillian.
